About Us

CRUX

Crux was born in August 2019 along with his 14 siblings via an emergency c-section. When he was born, his mom was in rough shape and unable to care for all 15 puppies. With the condition of the mom and the circumstances, the vet gave every puppy a plasma transfusion. At the vet's insistence, the owner surrendered 12 puppies to a rescue to be bottle-fed. At seven days old, Crux and one of his siblings tested positive for parvo. Over the next couple of weeks, all but one of the 12 puppies ended up back and the vet to be tube-fed while receiving fluids and medication. With the dedication of the veterinary staff and support from the fosters, eight of the twelve puppies made it through. Crux was adopted by his foster, where he is like any normal dog, playing fetch and cuddling in bed.

Crux is healthy and well-loved, living with five other rescue pets with similar stories. This happy outcome is not always the case in similar situations. There are several things that could have changed the outcome of his litter’s circumstances. The first being having mom fixed, this would have made the situation nonexistent. The second is having mom vaccinated, this would have given the puppies more immunity from the mom.

Although, Crux’s story is more complicated than most, we aim to stop events like this from being as common as they are. For this reason, our founders established Keystone Rescue Services (DBA The Crux), a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization. We are currently raising funds to establish The Crux Spay Neuter Clinic focused on offering low-cost spay, neuter, microchipping, and vaccination services for low-income families within our community as well as for nonprofit animal rescue entities in Oregon and SW Washington.
